Representative Abdul Rahman speaks in Kurdish National Congress of North America panel



Washington - D.C., USA (us.gov.krd) - Representative Bayan Sami Sami Abdul Rahman took part in a virtual panel discussion on Saturday, July 18, hosted by the Kurdish National Congress of North America.

The discussion was titled "Kurdistan Region: In the Crosshairs of Regional Hegemonic Interests" and was moderated by Dr. Ihsan Efrini, a member of the board of the KNCNA.

Ms. Abdul Rahman outlined the global outlook, how great-power competition is impacting the Middle East, the challenges facing the Kurdistan Region in Iraq, as well as the tools and opportunities that Kurdish people have today in diplomacy and advocacy. The Representative encouraged Kurds living in Europe and North America to speak out and voice their concerns with their elected officials. She also commended the Kurdish National Congress on its continued advocacy for Kurds since its inception in 1988.

Other speakers were Giran Ozcan, the U.S. Representative of HDP, the pro-Kurdish party in Turkey, Dr. David Pollock of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and Wladimir van Wilgenburg, a journalist and author. They discussed U.S. relations with Turkey, as well as the situation in Syria and Iran.
