Washington DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – Minister Safeen Dizayee, the Head of the Department of Foreign Relations, oversaw the passing of the baton from KRG Representative to the United States Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman to the new Representative, Treefa Aziz, who assumes her post today July 17, 2023.
Minister Dizayee thanked Ms. Abdul Rahman for her service as Representative to the United States and previously to the United Kingdom and wished her success in her new post at the Office of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil. He congratulated Ms. Aziz on her new role and offered the full support of the Department of Foreign Relations to her and the entire Mission in Washington, DC.
Minister Dizayee said, ‘We have a long and critical relationship with the United States, and I am confident we will continue to foster our long-term, strategic partnership.’
Ms Abdul Rahman ended her eight-year posting in Washington by thanking Minister Dizayee, the Department of Foreign Relations, and the staff of the Representation, and by warmly welcoming Ms. Aziz to her new post.
Ms. Aziz is the first Kurdish American to serve in the role of Representative to the United States. She previously served in Prime Minister Barzani’s office and has more than 25 years of government relations work in the United States.
Minister Dizayee is in Washington this week for official meetings with US government officials and members of Congress, where he will be accompanied by Representative Aziz.
