Washington DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Jennifer Gavito had a constructive discussion on Iraqi government formation, Peshmerga Ministry reforms, and the Sinjar Agreement, on July 1, 2022.

They also discussed the legal dispute pursued by the Iraqi Ministry of Oil over the KRG's oil and gas law. American companies have invested heavily in Kurdistan’s energy sector and the KRG remains committed to its contracts with them and other investors. It is also seeking dialogue with Baghdad to find a long-term solution to the disputes over energy resources.

Jennifer Gavito currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Press and Public Diplomacy and the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iraq and Iran. She has served with the state department since 1998, being promoted to her current posting in August last year. She has previously served as an Economic Analyst in the US Department of Treasury.
