Washington, D.C. (us.gov.krd) — KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Under Secretary Sasha Baker and other senior Pentagon officials at the Department of Defense. In light of recent security tensions in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, this meeting addressed the ongoing attacks against U.S. forces and the Kurdistan Region by Iranian backed proxies in Iraq. Other topics of discussion included Peshmerga reform, commitment to maintaining US forces in the region, and the ongoing threat of ISIS. Acknowledging the Peshmerga's vital role in protecting the region from security threats, they discussed plans for more effective and significant assistance to boost their operational capabilities. Both sides reiterated their commitment to regional stability and working together to reduce security risks and supporting long-term peace in the region.
