KRG Envoy speaks at UC Berkeley about 20th anniversary of liberation of Iraq

Washington DC, USA (us.gov.krd) - KRG Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman spoke at the University of California Berkeley on April 12 about the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Iraq and its impact on Kurdistan, Iraq, and the broader region.

The event was organized by the UC Berkeley Center for Middle Eastern Studies and attended by students and scholars interested in international relations, political issues, and the complex landscape of the region.

Representative Abdul Rahman noted the suffering of the Iraqi people, especially the people of Kurdistan, under Saddam Hussein’s regime and the gratitude of the Kurds for the country’s liberation in 2003. However, she also noted the mistakes that followed the liberation and the challenges Iraq faces today such as corruption.

‘The 20th anniversary of the liberation of Iraq marks an important milestone in the history of Kurdistan and the region as a whole,’ said Representative Abdul Rahman. ‘We must continue to work together to address the challenges we face and build a brighter future for all of our people.’

The UC Berkeley Center for Middle Eastern Studies is a leading academic institution dedicated to the study of the Middle East and North Africa. The center offers a wide range of courses, research opportunities, and events that provide students and scholars with a comprehensive understanding of the region's political, social, and cultural issues.

The KRG Representation is working towards building stronger ties with academic institutions in America.
