Washington DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – KRG Envoy Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman welcomed several representatives of Assyrian diaspora organizations from across the United States when they visited Washington DC in June.
On June 5, Ms Abdul Rahman met with Sam Darmo, Chairman of Assyrians for Justice, Ashor Chamoun, President of the Assyrian American National Federation, Yaukhanan Mar Eshaimun, Sargon Malik Ismael, and Zaya Malik Ismael.
In the meeting at the KRG Representation, they discussed several key issues that impact all communities in Kurdistan and Iraq but especially the Assyrians and other ethnic and religious components. These include the need for displaced natives of the Nineveh Plain to be able to return to their homes, the upcoming elections in the Kurdistan Region and issues surrounding land disputes.
Representative Abdul Rahman said, ‘It was a pleasure to welcome Chairman Darmo, President Chamoun and their colleagues. The issues we discussed are important not only to the communities they represent but also to the Kurdistan Regional Government, which is committed to peaceful coexistence among our diverse peoples, and the stability and sovereignty of Iraq.’
