Washington, DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman met with Jennifer Gavito, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iran and Iraq at the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the US State Department, on January 24, 2022.

They discussed the Kurdistan-US partnership, cooperation on climate related issues and economic development, and the importance of maintaining focus on the fight against ISIS.

The KRG Envoy highlighted the progress that has been made with Peshmerga reform as well as the increased cooperation between Kurdish and Iraqi security forces, although she said more is needed. She also voiced the Kurdistan Region's appreciation and gratitude for the United States' support in fighting terrorism.

The United States is a key partner to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in the fight against ISIS and has provided assistance in various areas to the peshmerga forces who have fought ISIS since 2014 and continue to protect the country.

America is also the largest donor of humanitarian aid to Iraq through the United Nations and other agencies and NGOs.
