Washington - D.C., USA (us.gov.krd) - Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman met with Greg Galligan, incoming Canadian Ambassador to Iraq, and Yves Duval, the top Canadian diplomat in the Kurdistan Region, on January 20. 

The KRG envoy congratulated the newly appointed Canadian Ambassador to Iraq and said Canada is an important partner for Kurdistan.

They discussed some of the challenges ahead, including the pandemic, government formation, and security matters. They also discussed the upcoming elections in the Kurdistan Region and explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations through greater economic ties.

Canada is a member of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and has supported the Peshmerga through training programs. It also supports demining efforts and provides other humanitarian assistance to NGOs in Kurdistan.
