KRG Envoy Bayan Abdul Rahman welcomes Minister of Interior Rebar Ahmed to Washington



Washington DC, USA (http://us.gov.krd) – Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, the KRG Representative to the United States, extended a warm welcome to the Minister of Interior, Rebar Ahmed, on his arrival in Washington DC on June 11, 2023.

During his first official visit to the United States, Minister Ahmed will meet with senior US officials, including at the Department of State, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security and the White House, as well as members of Congress, and other institutions. He will deliver remarks at a public event on Wednesday June 14 at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) where he will address political, security and humanitarian developments in Kurdistan and Iraq.

Representative Abdul Rahman said, ‘We are honored to have Minister Rebar Ahmed in Washington and look forward to a successful visit that will advance our partnership with the United States and provide an opportunity for in-depth discussions on security, humanitarian and political matters that are critical to our mutual interests.’

Minister Ahmed’s ministry is responsible for a wide range of services that ensure Kurdistan Region’s security, social cohesion and public safety, including policing, border protection, countermeasures against money-laundering and terrorist-financing, prevention of human and drug-trafficking, and safeguarding the well-being of refugees and displaced communities in the Kurdistan Region. Minister Ahmed negotiated the Sinjar Agreement and was a candidate for the Iraqi presidency.

The United States and Kurdistan Region have a strong bilateral relationship that spans a wide range of sectors, including security, economic, cultural, and educational exchanges. Both sides continue to collaborate closely in combatting ISIS and addressing other challenges. The KRG remains committed to strengthening these bilateral relations and preserving Iraqi sovereignty and regional stability.
