Washington DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – The KRG Representative to the United States, Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, and Congressman John Garamendi (Democrat of California), had a wide-ranging and productive meeting on March 23, 2023.

They discussed security, economic and political developments in Kurdistan, Iraq, and the broader region, as well as the fight against ISIS and the threat from rogue militias in Iraq.

The two sides emphasized the importance of continued U.S. support for the Kurdistan Region, which has been a key ally in the fight against ISIS. The terrorist organization remains a threat to both Iraq and Syria.

‘We appreciate Congressman Garamendi’s interest in the Kurdistan Region and his concern for our security and economic development as a partner to the United States,’ said Ms. Abdul Rahman. ’We look forward to continuing our close cooperation with him and the other members of the House Armed Services Committee.’

Congressman Garamendi visited the Kurdistan Region in March 2019 when he met with the then prime minister Nechirvan Barzani.
