Bayan Abdul Rahman reflects on 20 years after the liberation of Iraq at Missouri State University

Washington DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, KRG Representative to the United States, gave her perspective on Kurdistan and Iraq 20 years after the liberation of Iraq at an event hosted by Missouri State University on March 2, 2023.

Ms. Abdul Rahman reminded the students and faculty who attended the presentation that life under Saddam Hussein was brutal for the vast majority of Iraqis and that removing his regime was the right thing to do. She discussed the challenges and mistakes that followed, as well as the successes that have been achieved, such as a constitution that stipulates a democratic and federal Iraq, the economic growth of Kurdistan and Iraq and the flourishing of Kurdish society, media and international outreach.

The KRG Representative also highlighted the Kurdistan-U.S. relationship and emphasized the Kurdistan Region's commitment to democracy and human rights.

The event was organized by the Dr. David Romano, Thomas G. Strong Professor of Middle East Politics at Missouri State University (MSU) Department of Political Science. MSU is a public research university and has more than 22,000 students and offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs.
