The Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in the United States welcomed a high-level
delegation of Peshmerga and military officials from the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs and the
Office of the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region. The delegation is in Washington to participate
in the 2025 Iraqi General Officer Capstone Seminar, a flagship program sponsored by the U.S.
Department of State and hosted by the National Defense University.
The Capstone Seminar is designed to strengthen civil-military cooperation by exposing senior
officers to U.S. defense institutions, interagency coordination, and leadership principles. It serves
as a platform to advance security sector reform and deepen defense partnerships between Iraq,
the Kurdistan Region, and the United States.
During their visit to the KRG Representation, the delegation engaged in strategic discussions on
the evolving security environment in the Kurdistan Region. Topics included regional stability,
countering emerging threats such as drones and hybrid warfare, and the importance of continued
cooperation with U.S. defense institutions.
The visit underscored the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to modernizing the
Peshmerga forces and enhancing institutional reforms in coordination with international partners.
It also reaffirmed the enduring partnership between the United States and the Kurdistan Region
in advancing shared priorities of stability, security, and military professionalism.
The Representation expressed deep appreciation for the delegation’s leadership and service in
safeguarding the security and future of the Kurdistan Region.
