Minister Rebar Ahmed Concludes High-Level Visit to the United States

Rebar Ahmed, Minister of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government, concluded a high-level visit to the United States, reaffirming the strength of the U.S.–Kurdistan partnership across security cooperation, economic engagement, and long-standing institutional cooperation. He conveyed the sincere appreciation of the Kurdish people for the United States’ continued support and enduring partnership.

During his time in Washington, Minister Ahmed met with senior officials from the White House National Security Council, the US Department of State, the Department of War, and the U.S. Department of Energy to discuss shared priorities in regional stability, counterterrorism coordination, and energy security. He also visited the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) headquarters in Washington, DC. 

Minister Ahmed held multiple meetings with senior Members of Congress, including leadership of key committees such as Foreign Affairs, Armed Services, Financial Services, and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. In addition, he and KRG Representative to the United States Treefa Aziz met with professional staff from more than 15 Senate Armed Services Committee offices. Discussions focused on counterterrorism efforts, the enduring role of the Peshmerga, and the importance of sustained US engagement in advancing long-term stability in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Economic cooperation was also a major theme throughout the visit. Minister Ahmed expressed his appreciation to the US Chamber of Commerce and the many American companies investing in the Kurdistan Region. He emphasized the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to a stable, business-friendly environment and the importance of expanding commercial ties to deliver economic benefits in both the United States and the Kurdistan Region.

The Minister also engaged the policy community, including a roundtable discussion at the Atlantic Council, and a public event at the Hudson Institute, to underscore the Kurdistan Region’s constructive role in promoting regional stability and advancing shared strategic priorities.

In Detroit, Minister Ahmed was honored to visit the Chaldean and Christian diaspora community, recognizing its longstanding ties to the Kurdistan Region. He met with community and business leaders, including representatives of the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce, and toured the new headquarters of the Chaldean Community Foundation. The visit highlighted the Kurdistan Regional Government’s steadfast commitment to coexistence, inclusion, and strong engagement with diaspora communities across the United States.

Across Washington and Detroit, the visit reflected the depth of the US–Kurdistan relationship and a commitment to enduring partnership, mutual trust, and a more prosperous future.
