The Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in the United States was pleased to welcome a delegation from the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Parti), a leading political force representing Kurdish and democratic voices in Turkey.
The visit provided an opportunity for meaningful dialogue on shared Kurdish priorities and the importance of cross-border cooperation. Representative Treefa Aziz and the DEM Parti delegation held in-depth discussions on democratic development, regional challenges, and deepening engagement between the Kurdistan Region and Kurdish actors beyond Iraq’s borders.
As the successor to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), a pro-Kurdish political party in Turkey known for its advocacy of minority rights, gender equality, and democratic reform, DEM Parti continues to champion inclusive governance and the peaceful resolution of ethnic and cultural issues. The party’s platform aligns closely with the Kurdistan Region’s longstanding commitment to pluralism, coexistence, and human rights.
The delegation included sitting members of the Turkish Parliament, party leadership, and its U.S. representative. Their visit reflected a shared desire to foster Kurdish unity, promote regional stability, and strengthen the role of Kurdish voices on the international stage.
Representative Aziz reaffirmed the KRG’s openness to dialogue with peaceful and democratic Kurdish movements and emphasized the importance of building enduring partnerships rooted in mutual respect, solidarity, and a shared commitment to dignity and self-determination.
The Representation looks forward to continued engagement with DEM Parti and other regional actors working toward a more democratic and inclusive future for all Kurdish communities.
