Representative Abdul Rahman visits Canadian Parliament for screening of documentary film about Yezidi family



Ottawa, ON, Canada (us.gov.krd) – Canada’s Parliament screened the film “One Yezidi Family vs ISIS” on June 17 to a group of Members of Parliament and their staff. The event was hosted by MP Tom Kmiec, who founded the Parliamentary Friends of the Kurds group in 2016.

The film was directed and produced by renowned director Gwynne Roberts and RWF World for the Kurdistan Memory Programme, a project to document the history and culture of Kurdistan.

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Representative in the United States Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman joined the screening event and delivered remarks. She thanked Canada for providing support in the war against ISIS and resultant humanitarian crisis, as well as for accepting Yezidi and other refugees from Iraq.

During her visit to Ottawa, Representative Abdul Rahman met with several Canadian officials including Shadow Minister of Defence, MP James Bezan, Global Affairs Deputy Director, Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon Pegatha Taylor, and Deputy Director for General International Security at the Department of National Defence Phil Lafortune.
