Representative Abdul Rahman travels to New York to meet UN diplomats and officials

New York City, NY, USA (us.gov.krd) - Representative Abdul Rahman traveled to New York this week to meet senior members of the United Nations diplomatic corps and UN officials.

Representative Abdul Rahman visited several top diplomats at their respective UN Missions: Permanent Representative from Iraq, Ambassador Mohammad Hussein Ali Bahr Aluloom; United States’ Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jonathan Cohen; Deputy Permanent Representative for the European Union, Ambassador Silvio Gonzato; and Deputy Permanent Representative from France Anne Gueguen.

She also met with UN officials Darko Mocibob, Deputy Director of the Middle East Division, and Tom Lynch, Adviser to the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD).

In each meeting, Representative Abdul Rahman briefed the diplomats and officials on the political and humanitarian developments in Iraq and Kurdistan, and on the current relationship between Erbil and Baghdad. She underscored the need for the UN to build on the current positive environment between both governments, including the need to make tangible progress on the implementation of Article 140. She also highlighted that the presence of ISIS remnants and other militia groups in the disputed territories is preventing displaced populations, including Christians, Yezidis, and other minority groups, from returning to their homes.

During the visit, Representative Abdul Rahman attended the US Army Week Gala Dinner on June 12.
