Washington, DC, USA (us.gov.krd) - Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman had a virtual meeting with Ms. Dana Stroul, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East, on June 16, 2022.
Representative Abdul Rahman and Ms Stroul discussed the recent attacks on Kurdistan’s oil infrastructure that go hand in hand with the political pressure being exerted on the Kurdistan Region by other actors in Iraq.
They also discussed the ongoing peshmerga reform program and the assistance provided by the United States to Kurdistan’s security forces, which has been ongoing since 2014 when ISIS overran a large swathe of Iraqi territory. The Representative thanked the Department of Defense, other government departments, and the U.S. Congress for their support to the Kurdistan Regional Government.
In her capacity as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for the Middle East, Ms. Stroul leads the development of U.S. Department of Defense Policy and Strategy for Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestinian Authority, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
