Representative Abdul Rahman and Congressman Stewart discuss security situation



Washington, DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman met with Congressman Chris Stewart (Republican, Utah) last week to update him on recent security developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

In a virtual meeting Thursday, February 25, they discussed the rocket attack on Erbil on February 15 which targeted US forces stationed at the airport and also hit residential areas of the city. The Kurdistan Regional Government and the Government of Iraq launched an investigation. The Iraqi government, the United States, the United Nations, and European countries have condemned the attack.

Ms. Abdul Rahman said it was important that those responsible be held to account and that the peace and stability of the Kurdistan Region be preserved and protected.


Congressman Stewart, who is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, House Appropriations Committee, and Congressional Kurdish Caucus, and Ms. Abdul Rahman also discussed regional stability, counter-ISIS efforts, the Iraqi elections which are due to take place in October, and Erbil-Baghdad budget negotiations. The KRG envoy thanked Congressman Stewart for his support to the people of Kurdistan.
