KRG-US Representative held virtual meeting with Congresswoman Haaland



Washington - D.C., USA (us.gov.krd) – Today, the Kurdistan Regional Government's Representative to the United States spoke by phone with Congresswoman Deb Haaland (D-New Mexico), member of the Kurdish American Congressional caucus and a sitting member on House Armed Services Committee.

As part of the Congressional outreach, Ms. Abdul Rahman updated the Congresswoman on the latest security, political and humanitarian developments in the Kurdistan Region and broader Iraq. Starting with the latest bilateral relations, Ms. Abdul Rahman updated Congresswoman Haaland on the strategic dialogue held on August 19 at the U.S. State Department, focusing on areas of cooperation in the economy, energy, political, security, and cultural and humanitarian fields. The meeting was held under the auspices of the U.S. Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement of 2008.

The two sides also discussed the security situation in the region, particularly concerning ISIS. Ms. Abdul Rahman emphasized the need for the U.S. Congress to continue to assist the Peshmerga and thanked Congresswoman Haaland for her support in the past.
