Washington DC, USA (us.gov.krd) - KRG Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman had a productive online meeting with the Chairman of Canadian Parliamentary Friends of the Kurds, MP Tom Kmiec, on April 25, 2023.

The two discussed the current political and economic situation in Kurdistan and Iraq, as well as the relationship between Erbil and Ottawa. The discussion touched on a wide range of issues, including the ongoing talks between Erbil and Baghdad on oil exports and budget issues, as well as regional relations in the Middle East.

They also discussed concerns raised by the Kurdish-Canadian diaspora about immigration-related matters. Mr. Kmiec is the Canadian Shadow Minister for Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship.

Representative Abdul Rahman thanked the MP for his interest in Kurdistan and support for Kurdish-Canadians. Mr. Kmiec, who co-founded the Canadian Parliamentary Friends of the Kurds in 2016, has been a vocal supporter of the Kurdish cause and has actively worked towards enhancing the relationship between Canada and Kurdistan. Mr. Kmiec has represented the riding of Calgary Shepard since 2015.

The KRG remains committed to deepening its ties with Canada and looks forward to continued cooperation with the Canadian parliament and government.
