KRG Representation welcomes USIP Middle East team



Washington, DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – The Kurdistan Regional Government Representation welcomed the United States Institute of Peace’s Middle East team to its office earlier this month to exchange views on Iraq’s post-election dynamics, humanitarian and security issues, as well as the KRG-USIP partnership.

KRG Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman and the staff of the Representation welcomed Dr. Mike Yaffe, Vice President of USIP’s Middle East and North Africa Center, Sarhang Hamasaeed, Director of Middle East Programs, and Jenna Fischer, Middle East Programs Assistant.

They discussed developments in Kurdistan and Iraq and underlying security, humanitarian and political issues that may surface in the year ahead, as well as regional undercurrents that impact the environment as well as economy and stability of the country.

The USIP has provided financial and technical assistance to civic groups and government institutions in Erbil and Baghdad involved in peacebuilding efforts and is involved in reconciliation efforts and supporting minorities.
