Washington DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman welcomed Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and his delegation to the KRG Mission in Washington on September 27, 2022.

Minister Qadir’s delegation consists of Ministry of Higher Education Advisor Dr. Amanj Saeed and Dr. Honar Issa, Representative of the Kurdistan Accrediting Association for Education (KAAE).

The delegation is visiting the United States to discuss the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to developing standards for the Region’s academic institutions, establishing a peer-review process to evaluate institutions’ compliance with the standards, and bringing best practices to Kurdistan’s education system, via the newly instated KAAE. The aim is for this association to serve as a model for the whole of Iraq once pilot projects are successfully implemented.

The reform program also includes the promotion of technical and vocational education, student admission reform, as well as curriculum development, and alignment with the job market.

Representative Abdul Rahman thanked the delegation for their efforts in improving educational outcomes for all of Kurdistani students, from kindergarten to higher education, and expressed her hope that American universities and schools can provide technical assistance and other support to this much-needed reform.
