KRG envoy discusses the latest developments in Kurdistan, Iraq, with members of Congress



Washington, DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman met with members of Congress this week to discuss the political and security situation in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and highlight the US Kurdistan strategic partnership.

Representative Abdul Rahman accompanied KRG Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani in a virtual meeting with Senators Jack Reed and Jim Inhofe, Chairman and Ranking Member, respectively, of the Senate Armed Services Committee. The discussion was centered on mutual security concerns and the ongoing support for the Peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS.

The KRG envoy also had separate meetings with Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth, Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, as well as Republican Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Democrat Congressman Rick Larsen, member of the House Armed Services Committee. In each meeting, Ms. Abdul Rahman updated them on political and security developments in Kurdistan and Iraq and exchanged ways to enhance cooperation and maintain the Kurdistan-US strategic partnership.

She thanked the members of Congress for their support to the Kurdistan Region and the peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS for helping to maintain Kurdistan and Iraq's stability.
