KRG envoy briefs members of Congress



Washington - D.C., USA (us.gov.krd) - Representative Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman continued her advocacy in Congress this week and met with several members of the House of Representatives to brief them on the outcome of the Iraqi elections, the government formation process, human rights, and the security challenges facing Kurdistan and Iraq. 

In this recent round of congressional outreach, the Kurdistan Regional Government Representative to the United States had cordial discussions with Congresswoman Elaine Luria (D-VA), Vice-Chair of House Armed Services Committee and former Navy Commander, Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA), Chair of House Committee on Rules and Co-Chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-CA), Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Andy Kim (D-NJ), Member of the Kurdish American Congressional Caucus, House Foreign Affairs and Armed Services committees, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (D-TX), Member of House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

The KRG Envoy thanked the U.S. Congress for its support to the counter-ISIS fight through the NDAA and pointed them to H.Con.Res.32, the resolution that commemorates Operation Provide Comfort and supports the US-Kurdistan partnership today.

The United States is the largest donor of humanitarian assistance to Iraq and has provided financial and other support and training to the Peshmerga.
