Erbil Governor and Congressman Chabot praise US-Kurdistan partnership against ISIS

Washington, DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw and the KRG Envoy Bayan Abdul Rahman met with Congressman Steve Chabot, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, on May 20.

The Governor updated Congressman Chabot on the latest political and security developments in Kurdistan and the wider region and the humanitarian situation in his province. In a wide-ranging discussion, both sides praised the US-Kurdish partnership that helped defeat ISIS.

The Governor also discussed Erbil’s role as the capital of the Kurdistan Region as an economic hub, safe haven for the persecuted and a tourist destination.

The United States is a critical partner to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in the fight against ISIS, provides assistance to the displaced people in the Kurdistan Region, and assists the Peshmerga forces who have fought ISIS since 2014, and continues to protect the country both materially and financially.

Congressman Steve Chabot has served Ohio's First Congressional District for 24 years and previously served as a Cincinnati City Councilman and Hamilton County Commissioner for five years each before being elected to Congress in 1994. He has served on the Committee on the Judiciary, the Committee on Small Business, and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
